WHERE AM I? by Bob Schaaf SO-MT
Many times the search and rescue position information is aLatitude, Longitude. Using the Tennessee and Cumberland RiverChart books, try to locate the missing boater. The missing boatermay be at a specific location, like an ATON, or a general locationlike Jonathan Creek, or a degree distance to/from a specific location. The only equipment you will need is: The River charts, anEngineers Triangular scale and dividers. Since the river charts donot have a Lat / Lon scale, we use the engineers scale to determineposition. Office Max has them for $5.00.We will start with some easy ones on the Cumberland chart.
Where Am I ?
Position #1 36° 59.31'N 088° 13.30'W
Position #2 37° 01.215'N 088° 13.47'W
The answers will be with next month's new search. If youneed an explanation on how to use the engineer's scale, e-mail me at schaaf@bellsouth.net. Learn this technique and at the nextSARX you can use your GPS to confirm what you already know.
Good hunting
